DNC Talkers Toplines | Feb 19, 2026

Another week, another terrible series of poll numbers for Donald Trump. In a recent survey, half of Americans described Trump as corrupt and almost as many called him cruel. As he gears up for his second State of the Union address, Trump’s average approval rating is back down to a second-term low of -15 points.

With just 9 months until the midterms and Trump dragging down Republican candidates across the map, Democrats are building momentum by racking up record-breaking wins in blue, purple, and red districts alike.

Talking Points

Trump’s Economy Is Hemorrhaging Jobs, Driving Up Costs, and Putting the American Dream Out of Reach

  • Nearly 13 months into his term, Donald Trump has wrecked the American job market. Between his reckless trade war driving up costs, mass layoffs, and anemic hiring, it’s getting harder for everyday Americans to find and keep a full-time job.
    • Every day more layoffs are announced:
      • United Parcel Service said it plans to cut up to 30,000 operational jobs this year.
      • Citi plans to reduce its workforce by 10%, or 20,000 jobs.
      • Amazon slashed about 16,000 jobs.
      • Dow, Inc. announced plans to cut about 4,500 jobs.
      • Whirlpool recently announced they are shedding 400 jobs.
    • In 2025, the economy added just 181,000 jobs, the worst year for job growth since 2003, excluding recessions.
  • American households paid an estimated $2,120 more last year due to Trump’s inflation.
  • Trump is underwater on the economy, with a whopping 59% of Americans disapproving of Trump’s handling of the economy, the highest of either term.

Democrats are United in Demanding Real Reforms to ICE in Wake of Tragedy

  • In the wake of federal immigration agents shooting and killing two American citizens, Renée Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, the people are demanding change.
  • Despite Donald Trump rejecting reason and commonsense reforms to rein in ICE abuses, Democrats stand united in demanding accountability and stopping the violence and government overreach.

The DNC Continues to Fight Back Against Republican Attempts to Limit the Right to Vote

  • Yesterday, the DNC fought back against Republican attempts to disenfranchise U.S. citizens and military families abroad.
    • Ahead of a Michigan court considering Republican National Committee v. Benson, the DNC filed an amicus curiae brief to protect the voting rights of military spouses who are participating in the democracy that their loved ones defend.
  • This effort comes just one day after the DNC stopped the latest Republican attempt to restrict voting in North Carolina, which put more than 73,000 voters at risk of having their votes canceled.
    • While the RNC has waged an all-out assault on the right to vote, Democrats have been defeating the Republican scheme to disenfranchise voters ahead of the midterm elections.
