In no way, shape, or form has Donald Trump 2.0 made America or Illinois greater.
Things Trump has done instead of lowering costs:
- Demolished the East Wing
- Flipped off an autoworker in Michigan
- Defunded Planned Parenthood
- Attacked birthright citizenship
- Dismantled Department of Education
- Erected a 12-foot golden statue of himself holding a Bitcoin
- Cut childhood cancer research
- Cut public safety programs
- Bailed out Argentina and undercut Illinois farmers
- Caused a government shutdown
- Paused SNAP
- Cut health care
- Laid off federal Illinois workers via DOGE
What about this track record is great?
The Nitty Gritty:
Well, what about immigration? Trump promised that he’d crack down on immigration and prevent undocumented immigrants from taking advantage of taxpayer dollars. He also said he’d get the “worst of the worst” out of our country.
Immigrants are not the people taking away your health care, making costs rise, or preventing you from getting the help you need. Republicans are. Also, crime is declining in Illinois.
- Statistically, immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than people born in the U.S.
- American Immigration Council: Debunking the Myth of Immigrants and Crime
- Northwestern: Immigrants are significantly less likely to commit crimes than the U.S.-born
- Immigrants are not the reason you’re struggling to make ends meet.
- One, inflation is. Cuts to health care are. Trump’s economy is.
- Two, we’ve seen this before. This is some of the worst parts of U.S. history repeating itself. It’s on us to resist it.
- But Trump said he’s going after the worst of the worst?
- How are daycare workers, landscapers, moms and dads with their small children the worst of the worst?
Well, what about farmers? What has Trump done for the agriculture sector?
He’s done worse than nothing. His trade wars are putting farmers through the ringer.
- Like any other Illinoisan, our farmers have livelihoods to maintain and families to feed, on top of the critical role they play in our state and country’s economy.
- Illinois is the largest soybean producer in the country and soybeans are the state’s largest agricultural export, with many of these farmers living in Mike Bost, Darin LaHood and Mary Miller’s regions.
- Donald Trump’s trade war and betrayal of the agriculture sector has threatened their ability to make ends meet.
- While he was busy trying to bailout Argentina, Illinois soybean farmers have lost $100 to $200 per acre because Trump’s tariffs have kept the market’s biggest buyer–China–from buying soybeans.
What about foreign policy? Didn’t he promise no new wars?
The most powerful man in the world is busy holding foreign missions in Latin America and threatening war on Chicago to keep that campaign promise.
- Trump campaigned on being the peace president. Now, he’s dragged us into a costly military action in Venezuela to distract from skyrocketing health care costs and the release of the Epstein files.
- Not to be forgotten: He declared war on an American city, Chicago, last fall.
What about crime? Didn’t he promise to clean up cities like Chicago and Baltimore?
Instead he declared war on an American city, wasted millions of dollars on deploying the National Guard, and defunded public safety programs.
- The Trump Administration dismantled the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, terminated an initiative that financially helped rural law enforcement agencies, terminated grants that improved the safety and wellness of officers, and defunded terrorism training programs.
- In April, Edwin Galletti, who leads UCAN Chicago, got an unexpected email telling him that the $200,000 federal grant UCAN had earmarked for crime victims had been terminated, effective immediately.
- The DOJ terminated a nearly $4 million grant that Chicago CRED had planned to distribute to smaller organizations in Chicago’s South and West Sides.
- The DOJ terminated BUILD’s $500,000 grant, which would have expanded access for crime victims.
- Terminated grants that supported victims and survivors of crime in historically underserved communities.
- Froze $158 million in funding for violence prevention programs in cities like Chicago.
- Thanks to community efforts and local government, Chicago led the nation in overall violent crime reduction during the first nine months of 2025 with a 22.1% drop in violent crime. In the first half of 2025 Chicago experienced a 33% reduction in homicides, doubling the nationwide average.
- Statewide homicides are down nearly 10% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to latest FBI data.
- Interstate shootings are down 31% in 2024 compared to 2023 and are down nearly 71% since 2021.
The economy? Didn’t he say he’d lower costs on Day One?
That was clearly a lie. Inflation is still squeezing Illinoisans and lowering costs is not a priority for this administration.
- Excluding recessions, 2025 saw the slowest monthly average job growth since 2003. Manufacturing jobs continue to bleed, with the sector losing 8,000 jobs in November — the eighth straight month of losses — bringing total manufacturing job losses under Trump to 63,000.
- Trump’s inflation crisis cost Illinois families $766 last year.
- Estimates by the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee
Well, doesn’t he support Christian values?
