Candidates for elected office are always encouraged to keep an reuse their campaign signs whenever feasible. However, the Kane County Recycling Program will offer free corrugated plastic sign and metal sign stand recycling after the primary. The service will be available in multiple locations, March 18 – 29.
Recycling Steps
- Step 1: Check with local candidates or campaigns if they will be collecting their signs for reuse
- Step 2: Check sign material – we can recycle rigid plastic signs that are about 1/4″ thick (see below)
- Step 3: Separate signs from their metal stands & cut off any zip ties or other fasteners
- Step 4: Take signs & stands to the indicated drop-off locations on the listed dates and times
March 18 – March 25, 2026
- KDOT: 41W011 Burlington Rd, Campton Hills
- Bins near front of Building A – assessable 24/7 during collection period
- Kane County Recycling Center: 517 E. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia
- Open Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm
- Kane County Recycling Center: 900 Angle Tarn, West Dundee
- Located behind Village of West Dundee DPW building (gate off Beacon St.)
- Open Monday – Friday, 7am – 3pm
March 19 – March 29, 2026
- Kane County Government Center: 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva
- Assessable 24/7 during collection period
- Put signs into commercial container at the end of the long driveway, adjacent to the Forest Preserve
- Use separately marked containers for metal sign stands
The signs we can recycle in this program are made from corrugated polypropylene (cross section shown at left). Signs made from plastic film/marked #4 (LDPE) can be taken to store plastic bag drop-offs for recycling.
