The Changing Face of Immigration

October 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

On September 7, the League of Women Voters is partnering with the Aurora Public Library District to present a program on the evolution of immigration in the United States of America. Join us to hear contemporary immigration experiences and explore why and how immigration continues to change.

The Changing Face of Immigration
Tuesday, October 7 from 7 – 8 p.m.
Aurora Public Library District, Santori Library, 101 S. River St., Rooms 125/126, Aurora, IL 60506
Virtual via Zoom (password = arrival)

Program Description:
Are you one of the tens of millions of Americans who can trace a family member to Ellis Island? A sonnet by Emma Lazarus on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty includes the line, “Give me your tired, your poor,/your huddled masses yearning to be free.” Many learned this quote in school as a symbol of our immigration system, which continues to change. Immigration Attorney Omar Salguero will share contemporary immigration experiences and explore how and why immigration has changed. Mr. Salguero was born in Venezuela and raised in Columbia. He worked for a variety of financial institutions in the Chicago area before he began his practice as an Immigration Attorney. He presided over the Latino Law Student Association and served as the Central Regional Director for the National LLSA.

Please note, this is a hybrid program, so participants may join in person in Aurora or virtually via our Zoom webinar. Could you please help spread the word?
