SUMMARY:The Changing Face of Immigration
DESCRIPTION:On September 7\, the League of Women Voters is partnering with the Aurora Public Library District to present a program on the evolution of immigration in the United States of America. Join us to hear contemporary immigration experiences and explore why and how immigration continues to change. \nThe Changing Face of Immigration\nTuesday\, October 7 from 7 – 8 p.m.\nAurora Public Library District\, Santori Library\, 101 S. River St.\, Rooms 125/126\, Aurora\, IL 60506\nVirtual via Zoom (password = arrival) \nProgram Description:\nAre you one of the tens of millions of Americans who can trace a family member to Ellis Island? A sonnet by Emma Lazarus on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty includes the line\, “Give me your tired\, your poor\,/your huddled masses yearning to be free.” Many learned this quote in school as a symbol of our immigration system\, which continues to change. Immigration Attorney Omar Salguero will share contemporary immigration experiences and explore how and why immigration has changed. Mr. Salguero was born in Venezuela and raised in Columbia. He worked for a variety of financial institutions in the Chicago area before he began his practice as an Immigration Attorney. He presided over the Latino Law Student Association and served as the Central Regional Director for the National LLSA. \nPlease note\, this is a hybrid program\, so participants may join in person in Aurora or virtually via our Zoom webinar. Could you please help spread the word? \nTo join our Immigration program virtually\, people should use the following information:\nJoin link: https://aurorapubliclibrary-org.zoom.us/j/82789176418?pwd=sZMYwpTCru2aOaJCty5V2E4r9Wxh96.1\nWebinar join password: arrival

SUMMARY:Docs on the Fox with the St. Charles Dems
DESCRIPTION:The St. Charles Township Democrats invite you to the first installment of our new documentary screening series\, where we explore critical issues affecting us locally\, nationally\, and globally. \nFor our inaugural screening\, we’ll be watching “Finding the Money”\, a thought-provoking documentary that challenges common misconceptions about the national debt and deficit spending. \nWith growing concerns from both sides of the aisle about deficit spending and how to fund key programs at the national level\, this film offers a timely and insightful look at the myths surrounding the national debt. \nWe are gauging interest in attendance for this event. We have been in contact with the film’s producers and may have the opportunity to host a post-screening Q&A or discussion on the real-world application of these ideas in politics with individuals involved in the film. \nPlease RSVP to help us assess interest\, communicate with the film’s producers\, and secure the necessary screening kit and resources. \nJoin us for an evening of engaging discussion\, learning\, and community conversation. All are welcome! \nRSVP now and be part of the conversation!

DESCRIPTION:Join Kane County Democratic Women on Saturday\, May 31\, 2025\, from 10:00-11:30 am\, at the Gail Borden Library in Elgin\, IL for our very first docuseries. Her latest project is currently titled The Illinois Mine Wars\, 1860-1930 and tells the story of the violent conflicts in Illinois that helped to establish Illinois as one of the strongest unionized states in the nation. At the same time\, she is working on a biography of Mother Jones\, the famous labor activist and agitator of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.
